STYX is keeping up with the times and has its own group on facebook now. Its open for everybody without any limitation. Current or former STYX's member, fan, curious fellow or a complete stranger can become a member. Unlike the official web, which is maintained as a presentation, the group on facebook is more informal. Unfortunately (also unlike the official web) the facebook group is only in Czech language. But if you want to ask something or just leave a note, please do it without much hesitation. Certainly most of the people will understand your post and answer you.

From 1st to 7th August STYX's summer training camp took place in Frýdlant nad Ostravicí. For the entire duration of its existence, it is the first time the members met to train during the summer holidays. They were training hard with a large emphasis on overall fitness and strength. New members learned performances of the previous years, and a basis of new performance for the next season has been created too. And no less than three birthdays were celebrated as well. In the photo gallery there are some pictures of the training.

Although the ball season has ended a long time ago, new performances still come on. On Thursday, May 7, there was a "ball" for alumni of local school taking place in Odry, and organizers invited STYX as well. Vojta and Eva performed E-Day, and Pepa and Nikol danced in Consonance afterwards. Next, fire tamers appeared on the stage. Their performance was very impressive, but there were some unpleasant consequences. The combustible mixture they used was all over the floor and the nearest onlookers, and the residual odour could be smelled long after they had finished.
On Saturday, May 23, the group set off for the "international" (a few performers from Poland and Slovakia) stage display show in Otrokovice. Almost as usual, the dancers had prepared Matrix and Dancing statues. Because of illnesses, this time the arrangement was very off-hand, some had to perform in roles which were brand-new for them. In spite of these problems, STYX was successful, and together with personal congratulations and words of thanks from some organizers, the group won the originality award and a huge cake. Weather was pleasant, and as a whole, it was very nice day. There was even some time to sit by the local pond.
The end of this season (as for public performances) was the show Schody (Stairs) 2009 in Kopřivnice on Saturday 13th June. Once again, STYX competed with the piece Dancing statues, which was awarded the organizers' prize - goblin's face made of burnt clay. It was an interesting and pleasant change compared to the usual cups. After the performance the whole group moved to a beautiful garden of Eva and Lucka, where they spent the rest of a very pleasant day. Throughout the day, a lot of pictures and shots was taken; the pictures have already been on-line for several weeks, although the preparation of the video is going to take a little more time.

On Friday, June 5, there was the traditional volleyball tournament for the cup of town mayoress taking place in Bílovec. A few members of the group have already taken part in it several times, and this year the number of skilful players has quite increased. As a result, a separate STYX team was formed this year. On the whole, there were nine teams, which were divided into three groups. The first two rivals did not almost resist, so the STYX team occupied the cellar of the group without much trouble. In the second part of the tournament the teams were put into different groups. The winners of the first part faced each other in the final group, the teams which were not so successful fought over the fourth, fifth, and sixth position, and the rest tried not to be at the absolute bottom of the tournament chart. Here, STYX members were able to demonstrate their qualities at last. As well as their previous competitors they dominated their group and achieved the seventh place.

Another year has passed, and again it is time for students to prove all their knowledge in front of various examination bodies. Pepa has finished his studies at Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Charles University and has received a master degree. Markéta and Jirka have passed their leaving exams at secondary school and have been taking their entrance exams at university. Both were successful. As a whole, the number of group's active university students is going to increase by one.

There was a training camp before Easter, just like in past years. This time, STYX set out for Frýdlant nad Ostravicí. The stay began on Wednesday, April 8, by a nice evening filled with a ritual destruction of ligneous parts of plants by a intensive exotermic reaction and a consummation of heat-treated branchiferous vertebratea. Novices and latecomers, who were not able to come in time because of various duties, arrived on Thursday morning. Everybody housed in a local Sokol house and buckled down to training. The stay was pleasant and beneficial because a lot of work was done.
End of the Ball season

The STYX's schedule was quite tough in the end of March. Just two days after the trip to Prague there was an anniversary ball of the NC Line company in Děrné on Friday, March 20. Its programme was very rich, there was (among others) a pair from Slovakia that belongs into the world's top 10. A week later, on Friday, March 27, dancers had to deal with two balls and perform six times. The evening began with a graduation ball in Studénka, the second ball was organized by a secondary school in Bílovec. The performances spoken about were Dancing Statues (both balls), Matrix, Bad Day, Consonance and Candyman. Lukáš was saying good-bye to his long STYX career in the last one and he did it with a style. Still on stage with an applauding audince and the rest of the group around him he got a big symbolic plush bear. Two days later (Sunday, March 29) STYX was amuzing the audience of a handball match in Ostrava with the display Dancing Statues. All of these events are properly documented by a lot of pictures.
Prague mission

After Tábor, Hradec Králové, Brno and well known Ostrava STYX finally visited Prague too. And to enjoy it even more it was twice in a week. The first visit was a stage display parade of Sokol on saturday, March 14. The dancers spend a whole weekend in Prague. They slept in student's dormitory (it was a very special evening indeed) and trained in Tyršův dům (where the competition was held) on sunday. After a few days, on wednesday, March 18, the top of the season came. STYX was performing in the Palace of Žofín - the most beautiful balroom in Czech Republic. The official ball of Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Charles University was hold there. At firts the hearts of all academicians, teachers, students and other guests were touched by Nikol and Pepa dancing in their "Consonance", that was so delightful and flawless like never before. Then there was Matrix emanating a strong feeling of might, unity and power just like it was designed to. And when the midnight came the dancers unleashed their wildness through Mumuland. After this, everybody was happy because all went well and the night was still quite young...

There was a lot of new performances lately. It began on saturday, February 28 by a new, prolonged, "Consonance". Then, after a months of hard work, STYX presented its brand new performance "Dancing Statues" on the graduation ball of GMK Bílovec on friday, March 6. It's full of new acrobatic tricks more difficult than anything before. The audience was watching it breathlessly and the success was enormous. It was followed by a revieved Matrix - a performance that was very successful five years before and rerehearsed for this season. The last STYX's performance on the graduation ball was Mumuland, which "grew up" after a year. Now it is really a wild show just how it was intended originally.

The ball in Bílov on Friday, February 20, was special in many ways. Katka and Markéta performed in "Together" for the first time. About 500 people lives in this village but dancers still managed to lose their way. The skewer served for dinner was as long as an arm and it could feed a hungry mountain dog. The dog fed with it later was not a mountain dog but the size was similar. The ballroom was originally decorated with tens of lampions. Eva and Vojta proved a good taste and a sense for detail when they destroyed the biggest and most important lampion thoroughly during the most impressive acrobatic trick of the whole display. And the audince enjoyed it very much.
The Beginning of the Ball Season

STYX has gone through the first weeks of the ball season and it is becoming a habit that there is at least one event scheduled for every weekend. The first of them was a charity ball held in Bílovec on January 16. Then there was Brno (see Official ball of VUT-FEKT) two weeks later. After this there is no empty space in the programme until April. On Friday, February 6, one could have seen Mumuland and there were Candyman and Together in snow-covered Rožnov pod Radhoštěm. The last public appearance of STYX so far was a municipal ball in Bílov, which is described elsewhere. The most important balls of this year's season are drawing nearer as well as the premieres of new performances.

The official ball of Faculty of Electronics and Communication Technology of VUT in Brno was held in four-star hotel Voroněž on Thursday, January 29. Eva is studying this school at the moment and, thanks to that, STYX was performing on the ball. A combination of one-pair displays was chosen for this event. A usual sequence E-Day, The Consonance and Candyman was enriched by a special short finale - an exhibition of Eva a Vojta. It was a sample of the most difficult acrobatic tricks, which had not been performed in public before.

Dance and beauty

On Friday, November 21 STYX performed on a ball in Bílovec. There were some small nuisances like Dita's illness and Martina both performing with the group and dancing on the ball, but the display Mumuland went well. The next day, Eva with the head of the group went to Hradec Králové to create a part of the programme of Miss East Bohemia. Eva spent some troublesome moments on an unsteady swing pouring down flowers from time to time.

After more than one year a proper training camp was hold again. A weekend from November 14 to November 16 prolonged by holiday on monday provided a good opportunity. STYX found a new refuge in Horní Lhota near Ostrava and spent four days full of excercise and fun there. The camp's contribution wasn't restricted only to improvement of a physical condition and a perfection of the performances. It was a good social event as well.

In the middle of a training camp in Horní Lhota (on Saturday, November 15) a small group set out for Tábor to entertain guests of a local graduation ball. The journey was long and exhausting but, denying the circumstances, the ball itself was a big fun.

A nursery school in Ostrava celebrated its 50th anniversary in a greek-styled manor house in Ostrava and invited STYX to entertain its guests. It was the first show of a new season.
A future

The next year will bring many changes. Most of the ensemble is going to university, some members are moving to Prague, to Brno. There are rumours that STYX is not going to continue. The answer is here. STYX is going on, nothing is finished. The acrobats are rehearsing new a more complicated tricks. Well-estabilished performances are being prolonged and improved, the ideas of new ones are arising. New offers are already coming. But let's be patient for now and wait for the end of October when Lukáš is going to utter his "Yes".

More than half of the members were passing their school leaving exams (high school graduation) in May and all of them succeeded. Eliška became a Bachelor and she will be followed by Nikola most probably in next few days.

The group participated in last two competitions of this season in May. The first one was in Opava, May 8. STYX wasn't competing here, it's performance was a invited exhibition. On Saturday, May 24, A Genius of Hlučín competition was held and STYX was awarded third place in the adult category for the performance Mumuland.

There were two events at GMK in which STYX was involved. On April 29, there was a Kopernik's aerobic tour with STYX as a guest. Next week on May 7, as the soon-to-be-graduates were enjoying their final day at the school, STYX prepared a nearly ten minutes long show composed of the fragments of all performances of the last years.

It's like a miracle. After all these years STYX has finally found someone who is willing to support it. The benefactor is Radim Ševčík, a young and successful businessman.It seems that he really means it. All members of the group got a new clothes and last Sunday (April 27) Radim organized a private shooting contest with prizes for the most accurate dancers.

Like every year STYX was also competing with other school teams. At first, the dancers had to go through the regional competition in Opava and they were awarded the second and the fourth place in the national finals in Český Dub.

About high school graduation and nets hanging too low

STYX visited another two balls last weekend. Particularly the second one (Football ball in Stachovice) can't be left without a mention because of the large net hanging beneath the ceiling. It caused a big deal of troubles since girls were colliding with it frequently and even got stuck in it once. Have a look at some pictures from Rožnov and from Stachovice as well.
What happened so far until Valentine's Day

We are in the middle of the February (i.e. the Valentine's Day) and so far STYX could have been seen at six balls. A schedule filled so thickly as this one needs dealing with two balls in one evening sometime. The group is stricken by injuries, which demand great changes of the choreography, but (speaking about the cheering of the audience and another responses) the quality remains untouched. On Saturday January 19 STYX was performing in front of an audience much bigger than the usual one. The group was asked to amuse the employees and guests of the ASUS company on their private party. The event was situated at ČEZ Aréna in Ostrava where more than two thousands people were watching the show.

STYX visited a new place again, this time the village Větřkovice near Fulnek. The group presented two performances, namely Acro-bic followed by the display All By Myself. Just before Christmas STYX was to be seen on a private christmas party of a business company in Mořkov. Two performances were on the programme. First run of a new display Together was followed by older E-day (one-pair version). This part of the evening went well and the other one, which was ment as a before-christmas-reunion and a farewell to the old year, succeeded. It went very well too. Common sitting, talking and dancing was flavoured with joyful pictures, dancing on the table, singing performance in the entrance hall etc. Those who stayed till the late hours and didn't go home by car (please don't suppose they were drunker than a waltzing piss ant) experienced a siege of a locked boarding-house, barely a one-hour long sleep, night walks through Mořkov with a bucket full of those small peanut crackers, nodding at a train station and a very tired way back home. Performance on the ball in Bílovec

STYX presented its brand new performance for three pairs in Bílovec on Friday, November 24. But original intentions are not always completely fulfilled. One of the dancers, Niki, suffered very painful muscle injury during the performance. Although she was trying to go on with tears in her eyes and enormous self-denial till the end, it wasn't possible after a while. Therefore only two evidently distracted pairs finished the performance. Video of the whole display was made but for obvious reasons it won't be published. At least feel comfortable with some pictures documenting the event.

STYX is busy again after the summer holiday and its first major action was a training camp, which took place from Wednesday, October 25 to Saturday, October 28. Everybody was training hard indoors on a carpet as well as in the fresh air on grass. In addition to purely dance activities, a trip into the surrounding hills took place and football was played regularly on a local field before the lunch. Only early morning warm-ups didn't meet universal enthusiasm. The weather was beautiful except Saturday and accomodation was great, so it can be expected it wasn't the last time STYX came to Valašská Bystřice.

On Saturday, May 27, STYX participated in The Genius of Hlučín contest for the third time and finally achieved a victory with the new performance Acrobic after two years of ill luck. As usual the contest had a high standard, especially the organizers were doing a great job. A rich collection of prizes for the joy of an eye and a stomach was prepared to be shared among the best groups. A battle for a big plush bear arose immediately and a beautiful red glass chalice is also a nice gift. A few pictures can be found in the gallery. A new video-record of the performance was taken too, hopefully it won't disappear again.

The last performance of STYX came about in uncommon setting in Dřevohostice near Přerov, where The Witchs' Gathering traditionally took place on April 30. The action was held indoors because of bad weather and guess where dancers were limbering up... In the wedding hall of local chateau with merry castellan. The audience saw Dita and Michal with display E-Day at first. The next was Acro-bic with all presently available dancers and the production was finished by Nikola and Pepa dancing in Consonance. Some photography was done, but pictures will be available with a slight delay as usual. Video recording of Acro-bic is still missing, but it will be set right soon.

The english version of the web

The Closing Ball in Bílovec and The Teacher's Ball in Děrné

On the end of the ball season STYX performed its new display Acro-bic on the closing ball of the dance lessons in Bílovec. Organizers were great as usual: changing clothes in the corridor, strange time schedule and finally a black out. A quick moving to nearby village Děrné followed and the group showed its whole repertory there. Eliška and Pepa began with tango, Acro-bic had its turn after them. The younger members went back to Bílovec to enjoy their ball and a programme continued with the display E-Day, this time in a full version again. Nikola and Pepa finished the evening with their romantic show Consonance. All the performances turned out excellently and audience was delighted. Some photos and perhaps a video might appear later.

A video recording of the second performance of Unplugged 2005 was added into the Video section at last. The reason of delay is as follows: The show All By Myself wasn't released on the DVD, so that its gaining was a bit complicated.
Czech Street Dance Cup 2006

It's a bit strange that STYX took part in such event. The Action was held in Slavkov u Brna on March 11 and 12 and STYX participated in the sunday's part thanks to the main organizer's invitation. Again (as the name could suggest) it wasn't an event where jury would fully appreciate difficult acrobatics. Two slightly remade performances competed. The version of E-Day for one acrobatic pair and one dancer (due to various reasons) wasn't a big success. Although it's loaded with demanding acrobatic tricks swiftly changing one another, it lacks elements of dance (with small exceptions). As usual the audience was amazed but the jury evaluation was poor. New performance Acro-bic, with less acrobatics and important aerobic part, was more successfull and won the third prize. This competition wasn't very suitable but on the other hand the applause was great and STYX won golden opinions.

The traditional Graduation Ball of GMK Bílovec was held on friday March 3. As every year STYX presented a new performance, whose training was intensively finishing off during last weeks. New members had their premier opportunity to prove their talent despite of the nervosity caused by the audience. The new choreography is different then the former ones. It includes a lot of aerobic and less acrobatics. Also there is a lot more dancers performing in, thirteen to be specific. Everything went all right and STYX got a new item to the list of successes. Beside that, Nikola a Pepa showed their performance called Hero. There is a few pictures in the photogallery, which were made by Vilém Figalla and Pavel Peterek.

Two another STYX performances took part on friday February 17 in Starý Jičín and on saturday in Bolatice. In both cases the audience saw the performances called Matrix and E-Day. Ludvík Valtr, who doesn't train with STYX anymore, danced in Matrix again. Two acrobatic pairs danced in E-day, then it was the original version. There was also El tango de la Roxanne to be saw on friday. Both ballrooms were very nice, especially in Bolatice. In Starý Jičín there was a cart full of manure to be won in tombola.

The Winter series of performances began on friday February 3 on the agricultural ball in Bílovec. Nikola and Pepa put on a one-pair version of E-Day. The display turned out well and applause was great. The are some photos from this action in the Photogallery but their quality is poor.

As an addition a new video from the Unplugged is now available. STYX wasn't on stage for some time until the performance in Frýdek-Místek Castle. It was very difficult and sometimes even adventurous to adapt all the shows to local conditions (flagged floor, pillars, armours standing around, huge chandeliers...) but everything went all right after all and the audience was pleased. There were four performances. Matrix remade for six dancers was the first. Then Michal and Dita had their turn with E-Day (modified for one pair) and they did well in their first solo run. Eliška and Pepa, who dusted off and apropriately improved their tango, came after them and the last one was Souznění by Nikola and Pepa. Some pictures will be here as soon as possible.

The new school year had begun and STYX renewed its activity again. A lot of new faces as well as older ones appeared (graduates are no longer exceptions). Let's hope they will keep their vim and create new successful performances.

As announced earlier, this web has a new address http://styx.gmk.cz. It became a part of a web presentation of Nicholas Copernicus High School in Bílovec (the czech acronym is GMK) - the school, which STYX belongs to.
